County outlines temporary Wreck Hall closure and planned ADA-accessible rec center

County staff announced a temporary closure of Wreck Hall while crews remove walls, floors and doors for renovation; the closure is a safety measure during active demolition. Staff apologized for the inconvenience but said the work will support creation of a fully accessible community recreation center with co‑working space, teleconferencing, iPad access for telehealth and a new lift.

Staff described coordination with the recreation director to notify groups with bookings and said training for staff will continue during closure. "This really is about safety as they are tearing out walls and floors and doors and having children and families in that space is just not great right now while it's under construction," the staff member said; the county expects to reopen significant portions within roughly two months depending on demolition progress and lift delivery.
