Holly Dean, a lifelong Orange County resident and county schools employee, urged the board March 2 to oppose the proposed ValleyLink Joshua Falls–Yeats 765 kV transmission Corridor 2, which she said would run roughly 1,100–1,200 feet from Locust Grove campus and raise safety and health concerns for nearly 1,000 students.
At its March 2 meeting the board certified a closed session under the Code of Virginia, approved field trips, authorized a letter to seek readmittance to the VSBA and a $1,000 SBMA policy-services contract, and set FY27 budget dates for March 16, March 23 (public hearing) and March 30 (pre-call).

The Orange County School Board advanced an interim agreement with Gilbane Construction under the PPEA for a new Career and Technical Education facility aimed to open in 2027; the public hearing drew no speakers and the administration said negotiations will continue toward a comprehensive agreement when local funding is secured.

At its annual reorganization meeting the Orange County School Board elected Darlene Dawson as chair and Jack Rickett as vice chair, approved clerk and deputy clerk assignments, adopted governance norms and the 2026 meeting calendar, and designated signature authorities through Jan. 31, 2027.
The board approved a recommendation to declare multiple vehicles and eight aging school buses surplus and authorized disposal via GovDeals; transportation staff said there are ongoing bus-driver openings and described non-CDL 14-passenger training options.
