Chair Dave Riley called the December 23 meeting to order and established a full five-member quorum: Dave Riley (chair), Russ Johnson, Wick Rudd, Mr. Grimes and Nicole Shevry. Meeting housekeeping and agenda overview noted.
The Newport Zoning Board met Dec. 23, 2024. The board approved the consent (summary) calendar (three petitions), rescheduled a Thames Street hearing for Feb. 10, and approved three full hearings: 7 Carroll Ave (special use permit/parking variances to operate a 3-bedroom guest house), 9 Lees Wharf (parking dimensional relief to operate as a 4-bedroom guest house), and 96 K Street (lot-coverage variance to install an in-ground fiberglass pool). Several neighbors raised concerns about parking, past noncompliance and stormwater/drainage; the board attached site-specific conditions and unanimously approved the petitions.
