The Utah State Legislature convened in a special session on Aug. 20, 2020 to consider a package of COVID-19–related statutory changes and budget adjustments, including emergency powers, a supplemental budget using CARES Act funds, modifications to education funding and enrollment, public‑safety and licensing changes, and several technical fixes. Lawmakers introduced and moved multiple bills rapidly under suspension of the rules and approved a number of measures on the House floor before transmitting them to the Senate for further consideration.
