From the City of South Burlington:
On Wednesday, September 17, at noon, the City of South Burlington hosts a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the bus stop in front of Allard Square on Market
Street. Local media is invited to join a gathering of City officials and representatives from Green Mountain Transit (GMT), the University of Vermont (UVM), and the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) to mark this milestone in the realization of South Burlington’s City Center and the service improvements GMT has made to serve the hundreds of people – many of them UVM students and UVMMC staff – who now live on Market and Garden Streets. Jessie Baker, City Manager, provides a statement welcoming GMT's extended service to South Burlington.
On August 25, 2025, Green Mountain Transit introduced significant service improvements to better connect riders between Burlington and South Burlington. Routes #1 Williston Road and #11 City Commuter will now operate in coordination, providing service every 15 minutes between Downtown Burlington and South Burlington’s new City Center via Market Street. Route #11 will also serve Market Street on its inbound trip toward Burlington, offering direct access to South Burlington City Hall, the library, and new housing. GMT worked closely with the City of South Burlington to project the growth in this area, ensuring that these updates not only meet today’s rider needs but also support future development. These improvements are designed to increase frequency, improve reliability, and strengthen connections to some of the region’s fastest-growing destinations.
