The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners met March 18, 2025. The meeting opened with three brief public hearings on proposed road names (Galt Way, Half Acre Lane, Zelda Lane) and a series of public comments covering Synergy Recovery’s lease, tourism development, litter cleanup and a request to reinstate the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program (SMCP). After a short recess the board reconvened, approved minutes, awarded the Roaring River Landfill Phase 6 construction contract to Sargent Corporation (low bid $6,611,200), approved three road-name requests, adopted budget amendments allocating $5,091,761 to the landfill expansion (with a requirement that staff and counsel develop a repayment structure), and approved a proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention Month. The board went into closed session and adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
