With co-chair Daniel Schultz presiding, the Finance Committee convened for its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 6 in person and via video conferencing. Director of Business Services Josh Sweigard reviewed interim financial statements of the district through April 30, 2025, including the statement of changes in net assets and balance sheet, which revealed a structural surplus. Sweigard then spoke about historical local revenue collection. Sweigard presented the proposed final budget, which will be posted for 20 days for public inspection and advertised for 10 days before its final approval which is anticipated to be at the June 10 legislative board meeting. This year’s final proposed budget is just over $140M and includes a 3 percent real estate tax increase (the second lowest increase in the county) to cover rising special education costs and to address wage pressure due to high inflation. Mr. Sweigard next addressed proposed traffic calming measures around schools such as speed cushions, signage, refreshed pavement markings and raised crosswalks, on which the district is partnering with the township. Traffic calming measure costs will be covered by revenue generated from the BusPatrol student safety program. The final Finance Committee meeting of the year will occur on Tuesday, June 3 in person and via video conferencing following the Facilities meeting.
