In the heart of Colorado’s North Park region, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains, a vital community asset in Walden, Colorado just received a major upgrade.
And people came together to celebrate, a important milestone for one Colorado’s most remote and rural communities.
After months of hard work, 5,900 feet of newly reconstructed runway is now open, enhancing a critical lifeline for the Jackson County community.
Unlike most major airport reconstruction projects, this one was completed without any federal funding. Instead, this $5.7 million project was made possible through a partnership between the Colorado Division of Aeronautics, the Department of Local Affairs, and Jackson County — a collaboration that turned vision into reality.
With the new runway now open, the Walden–Jackson County Airport is ready to serve for decades to come — keeping Colorado’s high country communities connected, safe, and ready to support the citizens and visitors of North Park, Colorado.
