City of Carmel-by-the-Sea
Friday Vlog – October 24, 2025
It has been another busy week in the Village! In this Friday Vlog, Chip and Brandon cover important city updates, from infrastructure improvements to environmental concerns, while keeping things candid and informative. 🏛️🌊
🚦 Traffic Safety Updates
Sixteen new stop signs are being installed around town, as approved by the City Council. Chip reminds viewers that the city will continue monitoring their impact on safety and traffic flow.
🚧 Sidewalk Repairs Coming Soon
An item has been added to the upcoming November agenda proposing repairs to 1,460 sidewalk uplifts. If approved, a contractor will be hired to address uneven pavement issues across Carmel.
📡 New Wireless Application Submitted
Carmel received a small cell wireless application from Verizon for a site on the east side of Carmelo between 10th and 11th. Planning staff are reviewing it for completeness, and the city has paused the FCC “shot clock” with an official letter.
🏡 Housing Element & ADU Ordinance Progress
Following a Planning Commission review, the updated Housing Element draft will go before City Council on November 4 for feedback before submission to the State. The team shares optimism about receiving HCD certification by early 2026, with Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) regulations to follow.
💩 Beach Closure Due to Sewage Spill
A sewage spill from an external agency led to the closure of Carmel Beach. The City was not notified by the county or the source of the spill, but is now working hard to communicate with residents, clarify what happened, and push for better inter-agency coordination moving forward.
🧪 Water Testing Underway
New test results are pending. The City will post updates and clearer signage near the beach until the all-clear is given.
