The safety of students and staff is the top priority for Alachua County Public Schools. Superintendent Dr. Kamela Patton and the district’s safety and security team recently met with local law enforcement and emergency response leaders to strengthen the community’s approach to school safety. The discussion covered state requirements, district procedures, and new initiatives, but most importantly, it brought everyone to the table to share ideas and collaborate. In attendance were Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott, Gainesville Chief of Police Nelson Moya, Alachua County Fire Rescue Chief Harold Theus, Newberry Fire Department Chief Jason Lyman, and other local officials who play a critical role in protecting our schools. Their presence reflects a united commitment: keeping children safe and ensuring families can feel confident that schools are prepared and supported by the entire community.
