The DeSoto County School Board met Oct. 16 and opened with a superintendent report recognizing National Merit semifinalists and launching a new Future Civic Leaders program. The board approved routine business including the agenda and consent items, authorized the purchase of new buses and payment to a vendor, accepted August financial reports and reconciliations, approved multiple personnel items, and approved rescissions/revisions to several board policies following Mississippi School Board Association guidance. Board counsel clarified that the board does not have authority to remove an elected member and outlined legal limits on personnel actions; a member of the public urged immediate removal of a board member and asked the board to consider an executive session concerning a residency matter.
