The Village of Cottage Grove held a hybrid Village Board budget workshop on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, to review the budget review committees recommended preliminary 2026 budget. Staff presented an overview of operating and capital requests (notably a proposed $16.3 million police station), the effect on the tax levy and average-home tax impact, and department-by-department memos. Trustees debated multiple capital items (police equipment and cameras, a tornado siren, parks projects including the Bakken Park playground removal and a Community Park shelter design, vehicle/equipment replacements, a comprehensive-plan update and a stormwater feasibility study). The board approved including the police station capital project and approved the 2026 preliminary budget with a handful of deletions and reductions and set a public hearing for Nov. 17, 2025.
