Shasta County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting Oct. 24 to hear a Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) presentation on the True North Behavioral Health Campus BCHIP (BHCIP) round 2 application and to consider whether the county would support or oppose the application. HHSA Director Christy Coleman told the board HHSA could not support a letter of support because of unanswered questions about fiscal sustainability, payer mix, staffing, licensure/IMD exclusion, and operator history; public comment drew roughly 33 speakers sharply divided for and against the project. After extended public comment and board discussion, the board voted 3–2 to send a letter opposing the applicant's request (supporting HHSA's stated opposition).
