At its Oct. 9, 2025 regular meeting, the Hastings Utilities Board heard an extended presentation on Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market trends and the implications for local generation, reviewed fall outage work and plant projects at the Wayland Energy Center (WEC), and received an update on the new billing system and budget-billing rollout. The board welcomed a new member and approved the meeting agenda and minutes by roll call. Staff described potential next steps — studies and budgeted evaluations — to determine whether to convert units to natural gas, add new generation, or pursue alternative options such as solar, storage or small modular reactors.
