The Long Beach City Council convened Wednesday, Nov. 5 for its first November meeting, approving nine consent and capital items including studies and equipment purchases and accepting several state and federal grants. Council authorized a federally funded Roadway Safety Action Plan study with WSP USA, contracts for water plant valve replacement and emergency HVAC work at the recreation center, procurement of beach patrol jet skis and police tablets, and accepted grants for the police underage-drinking program and animal shelter HVAC upgrades. Public comment focused heavily on a dispute over a police-Long Beach Aware underage-drinking program, beach and lifeguard equipment, water costs and infrastructure, and community concerns about sanitation and safety.
