LaPorte County Council met Oct. 27 to consider routine budgets and personnel requests, hear public comment (including repeated concerns about the Franklin Street Bridge) and finalize the countywide 2026 budget. The council approved the solid waste and several township budgets, voted to adopt a modified 2026 county budget (reverting many line items to 2025 levels while keeping the advertised 2026 levy), and voted to support a not-to-exceed $1.262 million phase of Franklin Street Bridge repairs. Several department hiring requests and transfers were approved; several appropriation requests (including sheriff and maintenance items) were also granted.
