Gates County commissioners and the Gates County Board of Education held a joint special meeting focused on the future of New Beginnings Daycare, school consolidation planning and school nutrition and technology updates. Commissioners agreed to provide $50,000 to keep the daycare operating through Feb. 26 while staff and boards pursue operators and other options. The boards set a timeline for consolidation public meetings and a February decision on which elementary schools, if any, to close.
