District special-services staff explained the district joined fee-for-service Medicaid school health billing this year and is assembling a local services plan to claim reimbursements for services (speech, OT, mental health) and related costs. Staff said families must return a one-time consent; about 35% had been returned as of the update. The district estimated about $81,000 in first-year revenue for the local services plan and said funds could support salaries, vision screeners (~$6,000), medical equipment and other student health needs.
The Elizabeth School District board heard presentations and Q&A on expanding school health services funded through Medicaid reimbursements, new behavior-support programming at Running Creek Elementary, gifted and multilingual learner updates, multiple grant opportunities including a proposed Nathan Yip Foundation application to create a school-run food bank/student store, and policy reviews on video surveillance, medication administration, and the budget-adoption process.
