Mayor and clerk opened the 7:00 p.m. City Council session, called the roll (Mister Lisonbee, Miss Powers, Mister Hagen, Miss Sanchez Jones, Vice Mayor Maguire, Mister Nash, Mayor Cobb present), led an invocation and welcomed scouts and Fire Prevention Week Art Contest winners.
Roanoke City Council considered a rezoning request for 5060 Valley View Blvd NW to allow a residential substance use disorder treatment center; the council voted to deny the rezoning after public testimony and council questioning. The council approved a tax-exemption for Old Southwest Inc. parcels to be used as pocket parks and granted a water/sewer easement to the Western Virginia Water Authority. Several residents urged action on school overcrowding and timely release of city financial reports.
