City staff told the South Gate Planning Commission that the general fund faces an $8–9.4 million structural shortfall for the coming fiscal year on an ~$80 million budget and outlined options including deep service cuts and a proposed utility users tax (UUT) for voters. Staff said a UUT in the 7%–9% range could close much of the gap and described next steps for public outreach and possible ballot timing.
