Chair LaJuana Mayfield opened the session and asked attendees to introduce themselves and state their department or neighborhood. Staff and partners from landscape management, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, housing and neighborhood services, planning, city manager and city attorney's offices, and several community organizations introduced themselves.
A series of Charlotte City Council committee meetings on Jan. 5, 2026 covered new pollinator-habitat ordinance language and a unanimous committee referral to council; staff briefings and long discussions on affordable-housing innovation (TRESI and public-development models); Eastland Yards redevelopment and proposed ground-floor subleases; a small-business ecosystem assessment and workforce ‘Skill to Build’ rollout; a NoDa vendor pilot review and proposed citywide vending policy options; a public-safety/behavioral-health policy referral; the new Metropolitan Public Transit Authority onboarding plan; and technical updates to the UDO (maintenance text amendment).
