Salem City held a special organizational meeting and inauguration on 2026-01-05 at the Peabody Essex Museum. Officials swore in the mayor, councilors and school committee members, elected Alice Merkel council president, and Mayor Dominic Pangalo used his address to outline major priorities including a requested $200,000,000 state grant for a new high school, parks and climate projects, transit improvements and housing goals.
