Sarasota County commissioners held a workshop on voluntary demolition of nonconforming multifamily condominiums (mostly on Siesta Key) and on residential height/freeboard policy following recent storms. Staff was directed to prepare two follow-up reports—one on voluntary freeboard (recommendation: 1 ft required + 3 ft voluntary = 4 ft above BFE) and one to clarify UDC language on “destruction”/voluntary demolition—and return in about 60 days.
