Chair Andy Ball opened the January meeting, welcomed attendees and conducted roll call; members present included Joe Mazzellus, Paul Wazinski, Greg Allen, Andy Ball, Gabe Quisenberry, Mark Diaz, Jason Payne, Dana Alley, Savannah Glantz, Kurt Eumer and Griffin Kearns.
The Buncombe County Board of Adjustment held its January meeting and heard two major agenda items: a continued variance request for 90 Hazelwood Road (requesting a reduction of a 10-foot setback to 4 feet to place a manufactured home) and an initial review of a special-use permit for a proposed stump-dump/organic mulch operation on Brookshire Road. The board granted standing to the neighbor, received testimony and photographic exhibits about alleged unpermitted excavation and safety impacts, and ultimately approved the variance for 90 Hazelwood Road; the stump-dump permit hearing was continued to the next meeting after a staff presentation.
