City of Canton mayor and council held their first 2026 meeting Jan. 8 with swearing-in of new and returning council members, three zoning-related public hearings (a 48.21-acre annexation/rezone proposed along Ball Ground Highway; a Rivergreen Village zoning amendment; and a rezoning request for 264 Marietta Highway), and several business votes including a guardrail grant and theater restroom renovations. Action on the three public-hearing zoning items was deferred to February; council approved the guardrail grant, theater restroom renovation contract, minutes and a slate of appointments.
