Chair called the meeting to order and asked Reverend Hathaway to deliver the invocation and lead the Pledge of Allegiance; invocation stressed wisdom for leaders and community partnership (Reverend Hathaway).
The New Kent County Board of Supervisors met for its January 13, 2026 reorganization meeting. The board elected leadership, adjusted the 2026 meeting schedule, heard a VDOT operations update, took public comment urging replacement of New Kent Elementary School, deferred a family subdivision road-exception request, approved several budget items including a Colonial Downs sponsorship and considered funding for New Kent Elementary design (which failed), and held hearings on a proposed Verizon wireless tower and a Cox easement.
