The Denver City Council Health and Safety Committee held a Nov. 12 hearing to question and consider the mayoral appointment of Al Gardner as executive director of the Department of Safety; the committee moved the nomination to the full council after extended questioning about Gardner’s lack of traditional public-safety experience, trust-building with unions and community, budget priorities and technology policies.
