The Senate of Virginia opened its session in Richmond on Jan. 19, 2026, with ceremonial introductions, certification and swearing-in paperwork for a newly elected senator, adoption of committee assignments, unanimous procedural votes to advance its early calendar, and a joint assembly at which Governor Abigail Davis Spanberger outlined an "Affordable Virginia" agenda focused on health care, housing, and energy affordability.
