Chair Christopher Marte opened the hybrid hearing, reviewed procedures for public testimony (remote and in-person), and previewed the day genda including Seaside Park/Community Arts Center items and several land-use (LU) applications. He noted only 3.9% of city lots are landmarked and framed landmarks as compatible with housing preservation.
The New York City Council Subcommittee on Landmarks held a hybrid hearing addressing four major items: special permits for a Seaside Park amphitheater project in Coney Island, proposed Beverly Square West and Ditmas Park West historic-district designations, acquisition of the Prospect Farm community garden by NYC Parks, and a pre-development presentation for a large mixed-use project at 395 Flatbush Avenue. Speakers included applicants, LPC and agency staff, council members, and more than a dozen public commenters; no final votes were taken and all items were laid over for later consideration.
