The Colorado Public Utilities Commission held a public comment hearing Jan. 26, 2026, in El Paso County on Xcel Energy’s request to construct segment 5 of the Colorado Power Pathway. Dozens of residents and local fire officials spoke, with most urging the commission to reject or require major changes because of wildfire risk, emergency-response limits, property impacts and concerns about eminent domain; a smaller number of landowners urged support, citing easement agreements and local benefits.
