Columbus County held an emergency meeting after a National Weather Service briefing warning of a major winter storm expected late Saturday into Sunday; county staff described preparations, decided not to open a single mass shelter and instead support multiple warming centers, activated the Emergency Operations Center to Level 2 and approved cancelling the Feb. 2 regular meeting.
