The FBI presented its 2022 Biometric Identification Award to the West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory and the Martinsburg Police Department for using the Next Generation Identification system (NGI) to help identify a suspect in a 2017 homicide; the lab described how latent prints submitted in the case produced a top NGI candidate and led to an identification and conviction.
