Chair Representative Jim Dunnigan opened the first committee meeting of the year and invited members to introduce themselves (Rep. Leah Hanson, Rep. John Arthur, Rep. Jake Fitzsimano and others). Committee staff (Nathan Brady, Lorna Wells) and IT (Joey Boat) also introduced themselves.
House committee heard three bills: HB215 on allowing residents to comply with Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) defensible-space rules, HB17 requiring Public Infrastructure District (PID) meetings be held within or near the district, and HB85 clarifying that international organizations do not have independent legal force in Utah. Committees asked sponsors to refine language and advanced HB17 and HB85 with favorable recommendations; HB215 was left for additional sponsor work with stakeholders.
