Chair State Senator Kevin Parker opened the weekly committee meeting, introduced Senator Mara Matera, committee director Justin Chairs and counsel Mr. Hart, and noted a guest speaker would testify later (Marguerite Wells of ACE New York).
The New York State Senate Standing Committee on Energy and Telecommunications met to consider several clean-energy bills (including measures on zero-emission vehicles, statewide energy storage targets, school renewable conversions, transmission expansion and microgrid recommendations) and heard testimony from Marguerite Wells, executive director of ACE New York, on renewable costs, grid needs and storage safety. Committee advanced multiple bills to the floor or finance and engaged in extended questioning about battery storage safety, decommissioning, recycling and local permitting authority.
