Chair Dan Strauss called the 10/07/2025 Select Budget Committee meeting to order at 5:00 p.m., conducted roll call and recorded six members present; he noted Council member Juarez had requested excusal and the council president was also excused. He framed the meeting as the first of two public hearings on the mayor's proposed budget.
Public commenters urged the Select Budget Committee to preserve and expand funding for homelessness response programs, rental assistance and community services; nonprofit and business leaders also asked the committee to protect library capital funding and waterfront shuttle support. The committee opened the hearing, set public-comment rules, heard roughly 40+ verbal testimonies, and adjourned after scheduling a committee vote on the public-safety sales-tax proposal for the following day.
