The joint hearing of the House Tribal Affairs and House Community and Regional Affairs committees heard an extended briefing from Brian Fisher, director of the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, on the state response and early recovery needs following Typhoon Halong (October 2025). Lawmakers asked about FEMA assistance, housing reconstruction, environmental cleanup, subsistence support and mental-health services; Fisher said recovery will take years and several federal requests are pending.
