The House Finance Education Subcommittee convened in Juneau on Feb. 4, 2026, for a detailed review of the Department of Education & Early Development’s FY2027 budget and an update on teacher recruitment and retention efforts, including apprenticeship pilots and certification modernization. Members pressed officials on enrollment declines, vacancies, grant timeliness and residential school funding; a follow-up meeting and deeper dives were scheduled.
