Committee chair Mrs. Marshall opened the Feb. 9 meeting of the Buildings and Utilities Committee and announced members present: Mrs. Snead and Mr. Phillips; she said the committee will provide a recommendation to council on a procurement item.
The Buildings and Utilities Committee met Feb. 9 and recommended that the director of public service and safety be authorized to advertise for bids and enter a contract to rebuild Screen No. 1 at the wastewater treatment plant, with a not-to-exceed cost of $220,000; staff said the screen was installed in 1996 and cost increases drove the higher estimate, and an audience member asked about so-called flushable wipes, which staff said are screened out and hauled to landfill.
