The Alaska House Finance Department of Corrections subcommittee heard the Department of Corrections present its FY2027 budget request on Feb. 12, 2026, focusing on staffing shortages, facility health-care and maintenance costs, use of Title 47/12 holds and access to restoration beds, suicide-prevention work and several operational pressures driving overtime and vacancies. Committee members asked for follow-up data on trends, staffing ratios, vacancy specifics and in-custody deaths; the budget discussion will resume next meeting.
