The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs opened an oversight hearing focused on public safety in tribal communities, highlighting persistent gaps in federal funding, law enforcement staffing, missing and murdered Indigenous people, and the effects of fentanyl. The chair said DOI, the Justice Department and HHS will testify on implementation of laws and on priorities raised in a recent listening session.
