Eric (Executive Secretary of the CAP board) opened the session, explained this is the first public comment period on the removal request for the USS Ward gun and said the meeting will focus on whether the application meets Minnesota rules 2 402 7 0 3 subpart 6 (the threshold criteria), not on whether the gun should ultimately be removed or retained.
Public hearing held by the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board staff to gather comment on whether the application to remove the USS Ward gun from the Capitol Mall meets Minnesota rules 2402.703 subpart 6 (condition C) regarding an artwork’s need for removal/relocation due to deterioration; staff found the application meets that condition and will present a recommendation to the board on Jan. 28, 2025.
