President (chair) called the business meeting to order, noted no action from the prior executive session, asked the student member to lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and announced emergency-evacuation and no-smoking/vaping, anti-bullying rules for the district. These routine opening remarks set meeting order and ground rules.
The South Country Central School District board unanimously authorized administration to seek special legislation that would allow the district to borrow up to $12 million to address an estimated $10 million structural deficit and approved multiple consent, curriculum, personnel and business items. Trustees and administrators warned the community the budget process will be intensive through April and may require difficult choices, including whether to exceed the property tax cap.
