The Brookhaven Alcohol Review Board held an administrative appeal on Jan. 22 over the city's denial of Rush Lounge's 2018 alcohol license renewal after the 2017 ordinance reclassified businesses with a DJ, stage or dance floor as "entertainment venues" subject to a $100,000 annual fee. The board heard legal arguments, witness testimony and evidence about the ordinance's statutory basis and the data used to set the fee; the board moved to executive session and did not issue a decision that night.
