Jennifer Watkins of the NHSN protocol and training team led a 2025 training on NHSN pneumonia event surveillance, explaining the three pneumonia criteria, the central role and interpretation of imaging findings, age-specific signs and symptoms, laboratory evidence requirements, and rules for assigning secondary bloodstream infections (BSIs). The session included case studies and Q&A clarifying equivocal imaging, excluded organisms, and when blood cultures can be used to meet pneumonia criteria.
