Vice Chair Justin McCullen opened the meeting and said the session is the third community meeting on townwide parking requirements, explaining the Needham Zoning Bylaw currently sets parking minimums that vary by zone and that many of those standards have not been reviewed in roughly four decades.
The Needham Planning Board held a community input session on updating zoning parking minimums, where consultants from Stantec reviewed why the town's requirements—unchanged for decades—are being reconsidered and outlined options including lower ratios, in-lieu fees, bike parking, TDM measures and EV-ready design. No formal decisions were made; Stantec will finish recommendations by its June 30 contract end and the planning board may consider zoning drafts for a future town meeting.
