At its Dec. 7, 2021 regular meeting, the Newton City Council approved a local Social District ordinance under Session Law 2021-150 while tabling a $158,000 budget amendment tied to enforcement and maintenance. The council also administered oaths to newly elected members, elected a new mayor pro tem and appointed an interim city manager.
