At a Sept. 17, 2025 special meeting, the Avery County Board of Commissioners approved a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program application to acquire and demolish 23 flood-damaged properties and adopted a resolution authorizing the sale of vacant parcel #1821-02-78-6500 to Samuel and Sarah Woodie. Both measures passed unanimously by the four members present; one commissioner was absent.
