At its Feb. 25, 2026 meeting the Bakersfield City Council heard a staff report on California’s SB 707 and approved implementation steps, debated but declined an $180,000 tree-inventory contract, approved $2.5 million toward a new Open Door Network family shelter, and approved an adaptive traffic-signal contract while rejecting an associated 15% contingency. Several agenda items were pulled for further review and staff will return with refined policies and a revised council resolution.
