Chair Council Member Emmanuel Remi opened the follow-up Public Safety & Criminal Justice Committee hearing, said there is no legislation for a vote and framed the meeting as an exploratory refresh of the citys short-term rental framework to balance enforcement and responsible operators. He thanked staff and said the goal is possible legislation before July recess.
The Columbus City Council Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee held a follow-up hearing on short-term rentals to review staff recommendations, hear resident testimony about neighborhood impacts and party houses, and gather feedback before potential legislation ahead of the council recess in July. Staff proposed a new short-term rental code chapter, online registration/renewals, graduated fines, trespass authorization for police, occupancy limits and thresholds for reclassifying large rental buildings as hotels.
