The Ann Arbor Zoning Board of Appeals reviewed two appeals: a request for a rear-yard variance at 307 Barclay Ave to permit a 24-by-20-foot pavilion, which the board denied; and a petition to alter a nonconforming structure at 1700 Packard Street to convert basement space into additional bedrooms, which the board approved. Both items drew questions about lot coverage, neighborhood impacts and rental/parking implications.
